Whelping Day Soon

Our beautiful Lexus is a picture of health, and will soon be whelping another amazing litter of Checkerboard Aussie puppies on or about the 23rd of December 2014.

Bandit was giving her a "sniff" this morning to check her out then he got himself a "kiss" back.   Still in puppy love.  I think they have only had one serious fight since we brought Lexus home 6 years ago on the 23rd of December, a date I will not be soon to forget.

Want to stay tuned to the arrival of puppies? or to preview previous litters,  please check out our Facebook page by going HERE

We are presently taking deposits for puppies to pre-approved FOREVER HOMES.  Please contact us through a message on the Checkerboard Aussie Facebook page, or by Email to: checkerboardaussies@live.ca

We are located just outside the Town of Wiarton, 2 12 hours from Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo & 3 hours from London.

Scavenging Aussies

For anyone who owns an Aussie, they must know how much they LOVE food.  What always have baffled me about my Aussies, or any other dog for that matter, is how they can turn up their noses at perfectly good food offering but not even think twice about hitting the garbage .... proof is the interest in the Compost, or any other undesirables that they might scavenge while out for a walk along the streets.

Yes I am certain if our Buddy boy was able to get himself in that compost he would have been chowing down on Watermelon rinds, Banana and Potato Peelings.  Really though, what do we know?  the nutrition is in the skins is it not?

Walking The Dog

We had visitors today.  The last day all the "Extraordinary 8" litter were all together, as Dakota is leaving tomorrow for Thunder Bay, the Black Tri is heading out Thursday morning, with Ruby and Buddy heading out Friday.  The remainder will be leaving Saturday and Sunday.

Rusty came back to visit with his Forever Family, Jenn, Shea-lyn and Papa.  When he had enough Rusty got underneath the chaise lounge chair to hide his head.

Sisters Blu and Ruby cooling off in the Hostas.

Ace decided he was going to take Rusty for a walk.  He was pretty insistent with Rusty finally relenting in the end.

It was great having visitors, as I had lots of help giving the pups their last dose of worm medicine.

The next five days will be busy with the comings and goings of new Forever Homes and their puppies.  Stay tuned for departure updates ....

Happy Days ! Puppy & Semah Update

It has been a very happy day this Mother's Day at our home.  The very last two pups of the Extraordinary 8 2014 Litter got themselves Forever Homes today !  In four weeks time, one will be going to Thunder Bay, and the other down to Waterdown.  I am very happy for them. & their new Humans.  Very exciting it all is.

The feeding of solid foods could not be going better as anyone can tell from these photos ...

NEWS FLASH !  Semah update.

Semah with his new family members, & Semah after being pampered at the Groomers.

Own Carol and John's hearts have obviously melted and they are both smitten with our Semah, since the "no dog on the couch" rule when right out the door barely in a mere two weeks time.

We are very happy owners with all this goodness of Checkerboard Aussie lovers !

The First Solids

Mama Lexus has been getting a little tired of the feedings I noticed with her "Extraordinary 8" crew, so I notice them starting to whimper a little bit.  Since they just turned 4 weeks old it was time to break out the "solids" for them.  Today was that day.

It is about  this age, or a few days after 4 weeks of age, that there is usually one, in this case two, that make it over the "wall" onto Mamas side.  It looks like it was Buddy & Blu who made it over.  The Red Tri Female & Black Tri Male are the two amazing pups still available for a Forever Home.

I coloured coordinated the feeding schedule to keep it a little more organized and to give them each a little more elbow room, so to speak.

Merles went first, Tri's second, with the exception of Buddy who seems to be the piggy of the bunch.  He finished up in short work, then transferred back to the other side of the box.

Next plan is for them all to be de-wormed.  I have lots of help tomorrow that that will be the scheduled date for that to happen.  From here on in they will be growing like "bad weeds" and then some.  Stay tuned ....

Beyond The "SPOTS"

We had a rather late phone call the other night asking if we had any pups with "spots".  I am certain within that conversation I did make the statement that colour does not make the breed (or dog, not sure as I had been awakened from a dead sleep at 10:30 am when this call had came in).

The next day I posted to The Checkerboard Aussies, Australian Shepherd Dogs' Facebook page the following:

When choosing a breed of dog, please do the research first. A dog should not be purchased based alone on its colour, but their temperament, health background, energy level, etc ... should someone buy a dog on their coat or eye colour alone, then find they are more then they could bargain for down the road in the training & energy level, then who looses out? the owner or the dog? PLEASE do the Research. NOTE: A Merle Australian Shepherd is no more loving and loyal then a Red or Black Tri. Colour does not make the Dog.

The following photos are some of our "non-spotted (or in other words Tri & Bi coloured) pups from our past litters, who are all up to standard, not only the intelligent department, but all in the giving much love department.

Two Black Bi Pups, Red Bi, Henry, Black Bi, Ozzie, Black Tri, McGoo & Red Tri, Sprite.

And most recently our 1 year old Black Tri, Semah, who was re-homed to a wonderful family only a short week ago.

Our Merles are indeed all unique in colour, however our Red & Black Tri's or Black Bi's are equal in every other respect, as well as their own right to their colours.

Once again, Colour does NOT make the Breed.

The Extraordinary Eight

At 3:00 am yesterday morning I dragged myself out from my cozy warm bed to go down to the basement as our Lexus needed out.  When you are rounded out in full pregnancy ready to deliver anytime, and you need out, YOU NEED OUT.

Out and back in she went.  Me?  I stayed up until 5 am then returned to the warmth of my bed for another 1 1/2 hours.

Just before 7:00 am, hubby went down to let everyone out & get them fed first thing to call up to me, "there are puppies".  Three puppies to be exact, and by 10:00 am there were ....

... these beautiful healthy eight puppies, now named the "Extraordinary Eight", which we are certain "extraordinary" they all will be.

Colours & Sexes you might ask?  for the Blue Merle lineup there is 2 Males & 1 Female, the Red Merle is 1 Female, the Red Tri's are 1 Male & 2 Female & Black Tri's there is 1 Male.

Who has been spoken for already is another good question, as that would be 1 Blue Merle Male & 1 Blue Merle Female.

Proud parents?  Our Bandit & Lexus.

So the Lives of the "Extraordinary Eight" begins to unfold.  Please feel free to follow us on Facebook by going HERE.

Another Checkerboard Aussie Pup Achiever !

Congratulations to Oliver ! for completing Level 1 Obedience.  Way to go puppy "dude" !!!

Oliver is a Blue Merle Male from Missy Mercedes & Buddy's 2013 litter the "Everything 8".  We have been getting lots of positive feedback from this boy, and loving all the updates.  The only thing with Oliver is that he is very protective about his family, and really when you have such an awesome family that can not be a bad thing, can it???

Aussies LOVE Winter !!!

We have been getting lots of Winter weather the last couple week at North of Wiarton where we live with our four Australian Shepherds, The "Checkerboard Aussies".  Good for them, as Aussies LOVE Wiinter fun.

Bandit & Lexus having lots of play fighting time yesterday.

Missy Mercedes having the time of her life outside with me yesterday, loving every second of being out in the Snow.

Today we had a Blizzard hit Bruce County.  Everything is closed up like a drum, major highways, and side roads alike.  That did not stop us from having some Fun with our Buddy today !

Buddy just knows Rob has a treat in his pocket ... please Dad, can I ???

Then the fun begins.  Buddy as much as saying, "where you calling me, Mom?", and off into the snow he is gone like a "shot" !

Would you like to see more of the Checkerboard Aussies, and their offspring from photos their Forever Homes send to us?  please drop into their Facebook page to give it a LIKE by going HERE.

Stay warm and safe wherever you might be !!!

A Scout Update

We just received a new photo of Scout from our very first litter, the Magnificent Seven 2011 Litter.  Is she not one of the most beautiful Red Merle Aussies you have ever laid eyes on? we thinks so, but then we are kind of partial to our own.  Thanks to Scout's Forever Home for a new photo of her.

We had just taken a photo of Scout's Mama and Father this day as well ...

Here is Mama Lexus, just a booking it back up the laneway towards me.  Aussies can move out pretty darn quickly for those who didn't know this fact.

Our house dog, Bandit, and proud father of 3 past litters now.  Bandit struggles to give up his old "stuffies" that are now pretty much a pile of rags, but he still shakes all he can out of them.

Yes there is never a day that goes by wherein we are not entertained by one or all of our Aussies.
